Jacques van den Berg

Jacques Van den Berg, Chairman and CEO of Bergen International, was educated at Stellenbosch University in South Africa in languages and theology. Non-technologists invent 60% of all technology.

His exposure to mechanical engineering started while he was working at Motor Assemblies (at present Toyota) in Durban, where he invented and provisionally patented the first vehicle that cannot overturn (spherical craft with a cabin inside kept in position by gyroscopes).

In 1970 he started working on the Bergen Engine, using earlier concepts. The concepts became more and more sophisticated, to the present world-class levels (great simplicity, very high power-to-weight ratio and high RPM capabilities). He has spent 30 years negotiating with countless prospective players and developing both the business and technological structure of the Operation.
